Improving material yield in paper production

A specialist paper processor, a subsidiary of a major multi-national group, commissioned Sterling to carry out a project concerning material yield improvement at their South Wales factory. It involved a study of the entire production process and particularly of the operation of some custom-designed machines, analysis of data provided by the client, and discussions with on site personnel.

Our 'overview' findings identified the principal types of waste and defined the main factors contributing to waste. We then produced substantiated recommendations which were adopted by the client as the basis for an improvement plan which was started as soon as the report was submitted. Benefits were immediately realised with a marked reduction in waste rates.
